Psalm 150 is an emphatic Biblical command to praise the Lord. This psalm of exhortation tells us where and why we must praise Him and what to praise Him with, including:
- trumpets
- harps
- lyres
- drums
- dancing
- flutes
- loud cymbals!
This is for the loud times of praise, celebrating God's power, might, kingship, dominance and victory in spiritual warfare. Here we are strongly encouraged to be noisy, animated and expressive as we magnify God in His greatness. The Lord also commands us in Psalm 46:10 to "Be still and know that I am God". This is for the moments of quiet worship, witnessing to the glory, wonder of the Lord Jesus and the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit.
It seems to me that no-one can therefore claim that the only Biblical way to praise God is in quiet, reserved and hushed tones. Neither can anyone say that songs of worship must always be highly energetic and exuberant. Biblical praise and worship ranges from stillness and silence... all the way through to jumping and shouting for joy - Hallelujah! As musicians and vocalists, God has equipped us to be able to play both loudly and gently, according to the leading of the Holy Spirit and depending on the song of the moment. We must be sensitive to His guidance, being confident that whether He inspires us to play with volume or with restraint, we have not disobeyed God's Word.

Eliot's Dream for our Worship & Creative Arts Team
I dream of:
- a worship team full of people who know without any shadow of a doubt that they are called by God to express His joy through their singing and playing
- a church where the entire congregation senses total freedom to express their love to God
- a place that is attractive to the community because of the skill, professionalism, dedication, but above all the sincerity and heartfelt leadership shown by the worship team
How determined are you to give God your very best? I have resolved to do this, but I need your help! I am committed to helping each of you do the same.
Blessings,
Eliot
